Walk the Walk or Croc the Croc?

One thing everyone should know about me is that I absolutely adore Crocs.
In case you didn’t know, Crocs are a goofy looking clog shoe with holes in the top and are ridiculously comfortable. They actually were originally designed as a boating shoe for their lightweight design.
In the last year, I regained my obsession with Crocs.
Just like any other little kid, I had several pairs. One with rhinestones, a tie dye pair, and your basic solid pink pair. I thought I was the coolest kid in school. Last year, I noticed my roommate Lexi had a pair of Crocs, and at first I thought it was a little odd. I quickly realized Crocs were the perfect shoe to shuffle around the dorms in, as well as go pretty much anywhere.
Lexi did inspire my love for Crocs. I bought myself a purple pair, and wore them almost everyday. Even when it snowed or rained, I still wore the Crocs.
I get a lot of heat for wearing Crocs but I think what a lot of people don’t realize is how comfortable they are. Seriously, they’re made of this light, soft foam and the holes allow your feet to breathe. Even better, they come with an adjustable ankle strap so you can change up your look based on your mood.
Along with buying my first pair of Crocs last year came a new sense of confidence. I think this is really when I realized that I shouldn’t care what other people think. If I want to wear Crocs everyday of my life, why not?
The whole idea behind the Crocs company is “come as you are.” Although this is just a cheesy slogan to throw on the label, I think it fits the brand perfectly. I think this goes for everyone, but growing up, it’s hard not to care what everyone thinks. It took me up until my first year of college to realize that no one actually cares what you’re wearing. As long as you’re happy, and wearing whatever makes you feel confident, that’s all that really matters. I may be giving my Crocs way too much credit for finally feeling free to express myself, but I definitely think they helped a lot. They’re part of my persona now, and I’m proud of that.

One funny thing I’ve noticed since coming to USD, especially this year, is that Crocs are a popular choice of footwear. I don’t know if it’s just a USD thing, or a college thing in general, but I like to think I contributed to the trend.
I remember when I came home for Christmas break last year and rolled in with my Crocs. My parents made fun of me, but I knew they were happy I was embracing my quirky self. I also think a lot of people in Cody wanted a pair of Crocs after I came home for Christmas. I can’t imagine why.
This summer, I was working full time at the front desk of a hotel in Cody. On a particularly rough day, I had finally gotten to sit down for a break and I thought I would just take a gander at the Crocs website. There was no harm in just looking, right? And would it really be that bad if I bought a new pair of crocs, especially if they were on sale?
So you can probably assume I bought the crocs right then and there. And you’d be right. I have zero regrets about using my work money to purchase and new pair of Crocs because I got a great deal and extended my wardrobe even further. I think my next purchase with be the Jibbitz, little charms that I can put in the holes to personalize my Crocs.

As you can probably tell, my love for crocs is a little extreme, but I think it’s a staple of my style. Everyone should have an original idea to complete their signature look. As I’ve said on many occasions, I’m all about self expression. Buying a pair of Crocs has allowed me to express myself even more, and even helped me make friends.
If you’re bored with your wardrobe or are looking for something unique to set you apart from others, I would highly recommend purchasing a pair of crocs. Here are a few tips if you’re actually thinking of buying them:
When it comes to color, don’t try and pick something that will go with everything. Crocs don’t
exactly match everything, that’s kind of the point.
There are tons of different styles of crocs, but stick with the original clog. The other ones are just a little too goofy looking, but go for it if you really want to make a statement.
Don’t be afraid to wear them out in public. Odds are, people will probably compliment you because they wished they had some Crocs.
You can always find great deals in the
sale section on the Crocs website. That’s the only way to go.
Above all, remember to come as you are (hopefully you’re wearing Crocs).
